Updates and Projects

On Sunday, a quick trip to Lowe's turned into several mini-projects for the day. We went to get a gable fan and some plants...check out what else we got!

Here are the old exterior light fixtures:

And here are the new ones (back deck light):

We love them!!
This is the one next to the front door...we still have another plan for posting our numbers on the house. Can't wait to get that done!
With spring right around the corner here, I thought we needed a few plants to spruce up the front porch:

While Jonathan installed all the lights, I did a little re-arranging in the house. For a while we have been living with this brown armoire in the back of the living room. We didn't like it back there but it served its purpose for the time being:

After a little work, this is what I came up with. I still want to find some better decorations for the table, find art work that we both love (Jonathan is not a fan of this one) and a new lamp but not having the brown blob in the back of the room feels so refreshing:
Side by side comparison:
We have a few more projects we need to get done in the upstairs, then we are going to tackle the MAN CAVE in the basement. Once we have completed it, we are going to chill for a while and enjoy our home before any more "big" renovations (i.e. bathrooms).

Over the Weekend

Here are a few pictures from this past weekend. Overall we had a good and successful weekend (more on that later) minus EK's second round of the stomach virus. However, she was a trooper and we have learned from the past experience, so it wasn't as bad this time.

One cool girl:

Checking out her new chair we got at Wal-Mart:

Her Easter chick outfit. The chick ended up getting a hair cut before the day was over...cute in theory, but not so practical to have fuzzy hair that close to a baby's mouth:

Just chillin':

Where's Elly K??
There she is!!
This little girl has never taken really long naps when I'm in the house. However, on this day she took one just shy of 3 hours!! Main reason...stomach virus. This is the hair do after she woke up:

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend like we did!

Photo Dump

It been a while since I did a good ol' fashion photo dump. So here it goes...

How we usually find EK in the mornings:
We went to Cotton Tails at the BJCC last Friday. She finally decided to get comfortable...really comfortable:

Playing dress up with a dress that I once wore:

Jonathan went to a Shoot and Brag dinner one night and I snapped a pic of these two so nicely dressed:

SUMMER PREVIEW:
Please ignore the socks, but how cute it this outfit:
Think she might be hungry?:

Just walking around:

Supper was so good it got in her hair too:

Playing around one night:
Silly Silly Girl:
So so cute (and yes she is hoarding 3 pacis):
Early morning picture:

EK thinks its hilarious when I do this. She will actually put them in my mouth then squeal when I spit them out. Its our version of morning fun:

Low Carb Cabbage Recipe

This cabbage recipe is amazing and I thought I would share!
I found the recipe on this site.

Crispy bacon...tender cabbage...YUM:

On this particular evening it paired perfectly with grilled pork tenderloin and cucumber salad (cucumbers, greek salad dressing, and feta cheese):
Hope you try and ENJOY!

Pass It On Through

When we bought our house back in August, one thing that I knew I wanted to changed was the wall that closed off the dining room to the living room. If you sat in the dining room you felt closed off to the rest of the house. We talked about taking the whole wall out and some other options. After all was said and done, Jonathan and I decided to create a pass through. We measured it off and marked it, then Jonathan got to work.

The first cut:
So happy the electrical wires came from the basement:

We ended up buying a sawzaw for this little project and I had the pleasure of getting longer blades one day:
Here is a very unfinished look at the hole from the living room side:
We did have a few set backs. We tried to like a thicker molding, but it just didn't do it for us:

So we decided to use 1x8s and we love how big the pass through looks with this type of frame:
This past Sunday afternoon, Jonathan painted the trim bright white:

And here is the semi-complete version from the living room side:

Here is the dining room side that still needs some work but look at that handy man in the picture. Jonathan did a GREAT job completing the pass through! So proud of him:
Here is what we still have left to do:
1. Paint the dining room. We painted it the blue color that you see in the picture. We like it, others like it, but it really doesn't go with the rest of the house. You can see the green (My FAV...Apple 5) that I painted on the right side of the pass through. I should be able to get it completely painted by the weekend.
2. This may not happen immediately, but within the next couple of months we are going to install a piece of granite in the pass through. It will have a over hang on the dining room side that will allow for additional seating (3 bar stools will fit there) or to be used as a buffet area when we have people over for dinner!

I will post some more pictures once the dining room is painted!!
